The Democratic Institute MOSAIC recently held an important meeting with the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Serbia, H.E. Edward Ferguson.
During the discussion, MOSAIC representatives presented the mission of our organization and our ongoing efforts to support the Presevo Valley and to promote the rights of Albanians in Serbia. We outlined our initiatives aimed at strengthening democratic values, amplifying the voice of the Albanian community, and ensuring that human rights and equality are placed at the forefront of public policy.
A significant part of the conversation focused on the challenges faced by the Albanian minority in Serbia. These include the lack of recognition of diplomas, exclusion from public institutions, human rights violations, the ongoing issue of address deregistrations, and the insufficient level of international support for civil society in the Presevo Valley. MOSAIC emphasized that these barriers not only affect individual lives but also hinder the long-term social and economic development of the region.
The meeting also served as an opportunity to share MOSAIC’s concerns regarding the limited space for civil society organizations to work effectively with local institutions. Despite these challenges, we reaffirmed our commitment to advocate for greater accountability, institutional transparency, and a more inclusive society where democratic principles are respected and upheld.
We highly value the interest shown by Ambassador Ferguson in the issues faced by the Albanian community and civil society in the Presevo Valley. MOSAIC remains dedicated to fostering cooperation with international partners who share our vision of a more democratic and equal society.
